The newest member of our Empowerment Grant winner cohort is Jamaal Durr, a Dayton, Ohio based artist who is recognized for his figurative works that intimately blend reality and the surreal. Using materials like oil paint, charcoal, and graphite, he explores themes of identity and self-reflection through his timely narratives.
Founded by the Bader + Simon Board of Directors in 2023, the Empowerment Grant brings much-needed attention to emerging, underrepresented voices and themes. Art will be used to elicit dialogue, inquiry, and understanding to broaden the impact of our work. Community programming will enhance the theme of the exhibit.
